After a 400-year break with the canonization ceremony of the Armenian Apostolic Church, the martyrs of the Armenian Genocide were ranked among the saints.
With a minute of silence and the 100 toll of bells of all Armenian churches in the world the canonization of the martyrs of the Armenian Genocide took place at Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. After a 400-year break with the canonization ceremony of the Armenian Apostolic Church, the martyrs of the Armenian Genocide were ranked among the saints.
All the means for participation and coverage of the canonization ceremony at the Holy See were ensured: free transportation to reach the Holy Etchmiadzin, thousands of policemen to ensure the safety of the participants, and a new media center for 400 local and foreign journalists.
The canonization was conducted by His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians and the Armenian Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Aram I. The President of Armenia was present at the ceremony.
