One of the biggest events in the smallest city of Shirak Region was to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The copper statue of Soghomon Tehlirian, the fighter of the Armenian national liberation movement and avenger, stands now proudly at the square in Maralik.
It is already the fourth monument in the memory of Soghomon Tehlirian: his bust is situated in Yerevan, his monument-grave in San Francisco, and one more monument in Talin. Sculptor Samvel Petrosyan tried to give the statue a character: the Armenian, who revenged the blood and torture of millions of Armenians, with a gun in his hand and with his foot on the rocks.
