The declaration on commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was adopted at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The author of the declaration is the French delegate, Vice-president of the Assembly René Rouquet. The declaration was signed by an unprecedented number of delegates, 171, from 40 countries.
As mentioned in the declaration: “Genocide is an unconceivable crime for a society which is founded on tolerance and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms. Early prevention of such crimes can surely stop the escalation of conflicts, tragedies and humanitarian catastrophes.”
