At the age of 10 Hamo Sahyan had already managed to adopt the lifestyle of Lor village, Sisian. First he himself recognized and then acquainted the world with his grandpa, with the song of the village river, with crazy calves.
The nature loving poet received education in Baku, and participated in World War II. His first book was published at the age of 32, and thus one more color was added to Armenian literature. Sahyan said every poet expressed one color of people.
The poet has worked in “Soviet Writer” magazine in Baku, as well as for “Communist”, “Avangard”, Vozni” magazines. He has translated works by Pushkin, Esenin, and Lorca.
In 1966 Hamo Sahyan was the editor-in-chief of “Literary Newspaper”, when an Azerbaijani newspaper posted a map where Armenia was marked as a part of Azerbaijan. Hamo Sahyan saw that. Next day a map portraying the “Sea to sea Armenia” was published in the Armenian newspaper, and Sahyan was ready to leave the work because of it. Soviet literary critics were shocked.
