In the result of a hard psychological and physical battle with the total of 259kg Smbat Margaryan claimed the silver medal.
The European Weightlifting Championship was launched in Tbilisi. The 56kg weightlifters competed the first day. Armenia was represented by Smbat Mardaryan in the men's competition. Smbat lifted 113kg during the snatch claiming the 4th place and overthrowing his own record by 4kg.
During the clean and snatch Smbat who usually has higher results in it fought till the last for the gold medal. After the failure of his opponents the only opponent left was the Moldovan Oleg Sirghi.
