Practically every film director starts his/her career by shooting short films. This was a necessary condition in soviet film school. Soviet educational and student films are among the Armenian cinematography masterpieces today: ''Tzhvzhik'', ''The Owner and the Servant'' (''Tern u Tsaran''), ''01-99'', ''Avdo's Car'', etc.
For contemporary directors there are not such preconditions. They screen short films because they want to express themselves. But how to determine whether the film is short or full-length? This is like the question of the egg and the chicken.
Very often short films are confused with sketches. Comedy sketches can be considered short films if they follow all the rules of the genre. The general rule is one – to convey the idea to the viewer in a matter of minutes and make him think.
