38-year-old photojournalist Mogens von Haven won the first award.
The most authoritative award in photography is the title “The Best Photo of the Year” of Word Press Photo. It is given to the authors of photos related to issues on global changes.
The first photo deserving that award was from the field of sport. In 1955, 42 photographers participated in World Press Photo. Awards were to be granted for 3 nominations – news, sport and history. 38-year-old photojournalist Mogens von Haven won the first award.
