The “Mayr Hayastan” statue created by Ara Harutyunyan was placed in Yerevan “Park Haghtanak” in 1967. 3 years later the museum dedicated to the participation of Armenia in The Great Patriotic War was opened in the memorial building.
In 1995 it was renamed the "Mayr Hayastan" military museum and went under the disposal of the Ministry of Defense. Before that instead of "Mayr Hayastan" there stood the statue of Stalin.
Nowadays most of the inhabitants of Yerevan can't imagine the capital city without the image of the noble and mysterious woman watching the city from the height of the monument. March 28 is the birthday of the author of the statue, the sculptor Ara Harutyunyan.
