It is a solid product obtained through coagulating the latex produced by certain plants, particularly the Brazilian rubber-tree (Hevea Brasiliensis). In 1823 English chemist Charles Macintosh started production of waterproof fabrics with rubber material.
In 1926 Russian chemist Lebedev developed an industrial method for producing synthetic rubber. For this discovery Lebedev was awarded 100 000 rubles.
