Previously the candidates who participated in the contest knew about their awards still 3 months ahead. But only the first awards ceremony was held on that principle.
Next time the members of the Society of Cinematographers decided to partly reveal the winners' list.
The list was provided to the media in advance on condition that it is posted only on the night of the awards ceremony. With that policy the Oscars worked till 1940. That year the Los Angeles Times violated the law and posted the winners’ names beforehand, in its evening issue.
