March 13 marks the birthday of the most enigmatic and extravagant character of Armenian literature – Yegishe Charents. The mystic stories revolving around his name still continue.
Yegishe was born in the city of Maku, Persia. Charents nickname was officially put next to his name in 1921, when he was already a famous writer.
Yegishe Charents had an active life. His works as well as adventures come to prove that. The freedom-loving and realistic poet was the enemy of Stalin’s brutal regime, but it did not hinder from working just as he liked.
Charents died at the age of 40, in prison. Despite his young age, he left his unequaled role and trace in literature.
