In 2011 the Yerevan Municipality worked out rules for registering and keeping animals, which were confirmed by the Council of the Elders. The rules regulate the owner’s rights and duties, the registration procedure of pets, the conditions of keeping animals, the form of punishment in case of violating the rules, etc.
According to the decision, for example, the buyer of a dog must apply to the board of the administrative units for registration within 15 days and must pay 5 000 drams for permission to keep the animal.
Animal lovers and owners are not against registration and the fee of 5 000 drams. They just want to know where the money will be directed and whether the flaws and issues of the field will be solved.
