The fourth participant of the 6-member group of Genealogy representing Armenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 is Japan-Armenian singer Stephanie Topalian from the continent of Asia. Her magical voice has already touched thousands of hearts in Japan. Stephanie is a singer, songwriter and an actress currently residing in Tokyo. Watch the video about her participation here:
Stephanie was born in Los Angeles, California, to a Japanese mother and an Armenian father. Although Stephanie is residing in Japan she has a strong commitment to her Armenian background. She enjoys both Armenian and Japanese food. Stephanie favors Michael Jackson and “Queen” British rock band.
Stephanie started singing at the young age of 13. She sent an audio demo tape of her singing to various Japanese music productions, and received a response from a Japanese music producer Joe Rinoie. At the age of 19, Stephanie made her major debut in Japan from SME Records (SONY). At the prestigious 49th “Japan Record Awards” she achieved the “Best New Artist” award. In 2007 she released two albums.
Stephanie's songs were widely featured in the Japanese “Anime” animated films. Her 1st and 2nd singles, "Kimiga Iru Kagiri" and "Because of you" consecutively became soundtracks for the Anime “Kiss Dum”. Her 5th single "Changin", also became a soundtrack for Anime “D.Gray-man”. In early 2008, her single "Friends" became the second ending theme for the Anime TV series “Gundam 00”. The song fell into the top 10 of Japanese Oricon charts.
As an actress Stephanie debuted in the film “Pride” in 2009, based on Yukari Ichijo's shōjo comic. She portrayed the protagonist Shio Asami, and also took part in the film's theme song, "Pride - A Part of Me” together with SRM. Aside from “Pride”, Stephanie also starred in “Tokyo Tribe” (2014) and a short film, “It's All Good” (2009).
In 2015 Stephanie will represent Armenia at “Eurovision” 60th authoritative song contest. She will perform in Vienna together with 5 other talented artists of Arminian origin. At the moment Stephanie is actively participating in the preparatory works of the contest. The semifinal will be held on May 9.
Armenian Public TV Company has announced earlier that Genealogy will be uniting the new generation of Armenians spread through 5 continents (Europe, Asia, America, Africa, and Australia) around the world in the year of 1915. The group consists of 6 artists with Armenian origin – 6 destinies with 1 story.
The first participant of the supergroup Genealogy is famous French-Armenian singer Essaï Altounian, who represents the continent Europe, the second participant is American-Armenian singer Tamar Kaprelian, and the third one is Vahe Tilbian from the continent Africa. The song representing Armenia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 is called “Don’t Deny” (“Mi Zkhtir”).
The name of the 5th participant of the supergroup Genealogy will be announced on March 3. The artist will represent the continent Australia. This year the contest will be held in Vienna on May 19, 21 and 23 with the official slogan “Building Bridges”. Forty states will participate in it.
