The Armenian Orphan Rug displayed recently at the White House, has been woven by Armenian orphans saved from the genocide and found an asylum in American orphanages. As a sign of gratitude, the rug was sent to the 30th U.S. President Calvin Coolidge as a gift on December 4, 1925.
Last year it was rejected to display the rug. According to Congressman William McGovern, the rug display should not be looked upon as a step replacing the Armenian Genocide recognition.
The press conference on unveiling of the rug was attended by a number of legislators, Armenian lobbyists, who had worked for a year to realize the one-week display.
