The groundbreaking ceremony of a monument dedicated to the Armenian genocide took place in San Joaquin Valley in Fresno, State of California. The architect of the monument is Paul Halajyan from Fresno.
The monument, constructed in resemblance of the Tsitsernaklaberd Memorial Complex, will be comprised of 9 columns, which will symbolize Armenia’s 6 provinces, Kilikia, Diaspora and Armenia. The first column will be 19 feet high, the last one – 15, which will symbolize the year of 1915.
Today 50 000 Armenians live in Fresno. 23 thousand students study at the State University of California.Construction of the monument in the territory of the university will contribute to wide awareness of the students on the black page of the Armenians and world history.
