According to the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) Western Region, the year was productive in some regards: the Senate of California legally recognized Artsakh’s independence. The process is going on in other states as well, again at a level of the Senate. Armenian Genocide History was included in the subjects list of schools and colleges in California.
ANCA expressed gratitude and awarded the Armenian and foreign figures, who contributed to the above achievements. Lawyer David Balabanyan was awarded with “Justice Defender” Prize. Kevin de León, the head of the Californian Senate, received “The Year’s MP” title for the outstanding contribution to Artsakh’s international recognition by the Senate.
The representatives of the Middle East Fund were also awarded for the support shown to the Armenians 100 years ago, a support, thanks to which the life of 132 thousand orphans was saved, 1 million refugees found an asylum, and thus the Ottoman government’s plan of exterminating the Armenians failed.
