After the 1988 earthquake in Armenia benefactor Hovhannes Oyunjian decided to help his motherland in all means possible for him, directing the investments especially to the school building projects.
At that time, he was touring the ruined city of Gyumri, with Yeznik Balyan, than the Armenian Relief Fund CEO, now the “Oyunjian” Foundation chair of the council, and they decided to consider the destroyed School N 21 in Textiles neighbourhood.
In 2001, when the school was just reopened it had 250 students. Now 650 Gyumri children attend to the pink coloured building.
Hovhannes Oyunjian realized his investment projects for the motherland just with his lifetime savings. Now they will have singing, dancing, ballet, painting, sculpture classes, as well as concert hall and dancing area in recently opened “Varduhi” arts school.
