Along with Yerevan, Gyumri and Dilijan, as an academic centre now, Etchmiadzin is the spiritual capital of all Armenians. This is how the residents of 2699 year old Etchmiadzin like describing their hometown, which is “the place where the only Son of the God descended” (as “Etchmiadzin” stands for in Armenian.)
The chain of festive events of October 8 started with a march in front of St Hripsime Church and continued at Komitas Square. Almost all of the city participated in the march from pupils to veterans. During the day events of the Etchmiadzin Day continued elsewhere in town, resuming at the square with a gala-concert. The President joined the events dedicated to the Etchmiadzin Day.
Serzh Sargsyan lit a candle at St Hripsime Church for the better future of the historical town and peace for the country. Then he joined the Etchmiadzin foundation celebrations.
