Paris is about the Eiffel Tower, London is about Big Ben, Barcelona, accordingly is about Gaudi. What are then Armenia and its capital about for the world? Do not our country with millenial history and huge cultural heritage have the hallmark to represent Armenia to the rest of the world? What is it then?
The apricot for which the foreigners often call Armenia “Apricot Land?” Authentic musical instrument of duduk, or rather the cross-stones typical for the Armenian arts only? Or maybe Mount Ararat the sacred symbol of Armenia and the Armenians since ancient times.
Astgik Avetisyan, the head of the “Armenian PR Association” scientific – information NGO thinks that Armenia and its people are thought about due to some sad events from the past, like the Armenian Genocide, the NKR Conflict, 1988 Earthquake. She thinks we need to discharge our image from these sad notes among the foreigners, as the “country brand” is an imperative today.
The experts say that nowadays the nations and countries are recognized with their news. For many foreigners Armenia is associated with a centennial tragedy the Armenians had. The same was true for French Matilda, visiting our country. But she needed just some days to significantly enrich her vision of our country.
She did not have clear image of Armenia before visiting it, though living in neighbouring Georgia. She thought Armenia and Georgia were similar countries. Armenia was about the Genocide for her, she says. Now she is sure the symbol of Armenia is its architecture, a thing that amazed her greatly.
