A 1989 Patriarchal Decree by the Catholicos of all-Armenians, Vazgen I the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic church was restored. Since the beginning of the pan-national movement, during the war years, and till the victory the Armenian clergymen have always been standing next to the Artsakh (NKR) people and Armenian military servicemen.
On October 1, 1989, after a long-standing silence a service was held at the Gandzasar Monastery on the Day of Varaga Monastery Holy Cross. Then the church-building years followed.
Today, the Artsakh Diocese celebrates the 25th anniversary of its rebirth.
