The Armenian church of Saint Martyrs in Deir ez – Zor, Syria, blown up a week ago, was a relatively new construction from 1989.
Khachik Jozikyan from the Syrian – Armenian community was born and lived in Aleppo. Every year he visited Deir ez – Zor with his family on April 23 or 24. On April 24, people from Syria and Lebanon used to come there to commemorate the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
The church was mined and blown after ISIS gained control over this region, but Khachik Jozikyan is sure the Turkish order might be found behind this explosion. It is not news, for the world, that Turkey funds and arms the terrorists.
Hayk Demoyan, Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum – Institute believes the explosion of the holy place was a challenge not to the Armenians, but to the whole world, a message that they were not going to give up.
