Each year, and this year is the 12th, the “Freedom of Information Center” celebrated the International Right to Know Day. The "Golden Key and Rusty Lock" annual awards are a unique kind of accountability on how openly and transparently the state bodies worked. And which media was active in covering the issues relating to the right to know.
Armavir marzpetaran (governor’s office) was found the most open state institution that best applied the Armenian Freedom of Information Law.
The Golden Key was awarded to the Ministry of Territorial Administration. Advocate Karen Mejlumyan was recognized the most consistent human rights advocate for the access to information right.
www.police.am was found the best official web site in terms of access to information. Public Radio of Armenia and yerkir.am news-site were the media to get the Golden Key awards.
The Rusty Locks were awarded to the Armenian State University of Economics and the State Committee on Immovable Property Cadastre as symbols of non-transparent manner of working.
Armenia’s PM was present at the event, he thanked both for the positive, and the negative evaluation. He promised to improve the situation next year.
