“Komitas Days” festival starts today, September 26, the day Komitas was born 145 years ago.
It is impossible to overestimate the role and significance of Komitas in history of the Armenian musical culture. He is the founder of the Armenian classical music. Yet the historical role of Komitas is not confined to that of a great figure of Armenian music. Komitas has greatly contributed to the system of Armenian identity and self-awareness, as well.
Komitasologist Mher Navoyan assures that with the music by Komitas, with his heritage and his name any Armenian in any part of the world can describe themselves as Armenians. Komitas is a unique sacrament for each generation. His cultural heritage is limitless.
