“The New York Times”, one of the US authoritative publications, published an article by SerzhSargsyan titled “WW I and the Armenian Genocide.” Serzh Sargsyan quoted the joint statement from May 24, 1915, made by the governments of the
UK, France and Russia, as a proof of international acknowledgment of the crime committedby the Ottoman Empire. It reads- “For about a month the Kurd and Turkish population of
Armenia has been massacring Armenians with the connivance and often assistance of Ottomanauthorities.” The President named that statement the first international document, which describes the mentioned events as “new crimes of Turkey against humanity and civilization.”
The Head of the State mentioned the genocides of the Jews during WWII, of Cambodia, Rwanda, Darfour, in his piece, emphasizing that it is the history’s dark cycle repeating itself,partially due to the unfinished work from the past.
