The musical theater, the musicals, having appeared in early 20th century, in the US, were a new page, new way of thinking, new views in the world of theater. Not only acting and talking were made important, but also the flexibility and vocal talent. So, this makes the musical artists both singers, and dancers, and actors, at the same time.
The famed Broadway halls were full-house. Premiers used to quickly follow each other. People used to come to enjoy splendid musical shows like “Cats”, “One Day in New York”, “Oliver Twist”, “Matilda.”
Armen Meliqsetyan, musical theater director and lecturer, who has long been educating musical artists, says in sorrow, this genre is yet undeveloped in Armenia.
Though they have special musical artist class at the Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Film. There are occasional musicals at some theatres – which is good and positive – but they all are made with different cast and crew.
The young artists representing this unique genre never lose hope that one day the Armenian artists will have all the necessary conditions to present the New York miracle of musicals from the Armenian stages in all its glory.
