Gala celebrations on the occasion of the Armenian Independence in cities with large Armenian populations go on. The Independence Day was grandiosely celebrated in Saint-Petersburg – an event was held there at “Vernatoun” Cultural Center, St Catherine Armenian church.
Greetings were addressed by the foreign diplomats, political and cultural figures present at the festive reception. They spoke about centennial friendship between Armenians and Russians.
Hrayr Karapetyan, Armenia’s Consul General to Saint-Petersburg reminded in his speech, that in 2015 the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide is commemorated. Thus the ultimate goal for the progressive humanity should be the recognition of this crime by Turkey.
Saint-Petersburg Governor Georgi Poltavchenko delivered a congratulatory address on the Independence anniversary. It was read by Evgeniy Grigoriev, Chairman of the External Commission of the local government.
