How have our national cultural conscience, and especially the songs written during the independence years reflected the new National rise in 80’s, the Artsakh Liberation War, and the long-awaited statehood restoration? The “Armenian Army” song, an anthem for the army, was born on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Armenian Armed Forces.
The “Sharm” Holding team was chosen for this. Hakob Rubinyan with his lyrics and Armen Martirosyan, one of the jazz musicians with discriminating test performed the task.
Recalling the process of creating the army anthem Armen Martirosyan confirms the primary goal for them was to get rid of the Soviet era parades’ pathetics and find the national basis in simple solutions.
Series of independence songs were created just in turmoil of the liberation war, in trenches, on the front line, and the old bardic songs were remade. Gagik Ginosyan, the artistic director of “Karin” artistic company, says though the songs are far from the Komitas tunes, still they are inspiring and victorious. Ginosyan himself had to go through the liberation war to victory with these very songs.
