The Head of the Republic paid an official visit to Vatican City. President Sargsyan had a private discussion with His Holiness Pope Francis. Both the Head of the Republic and His Holiness underlined that the strongly based relations between Armenia and Vatican are engendered from the same stem of Christian values and ideology. The meeting was preceded with “A Fable of the East: Challenges Facing Christianity in the New Millennium” photo exhibition opening at Vittoriano Museum Complex attended by Serzh Sargsyan. Photos from 9 countries, as well as a videofilm on Julfa’s Armenian cross-stones’ destruction were presented there.
The exhibition is of profound interest. It was attended by the Cardinals of the Catholic Church, around 70 foreign ambassadors, representatives of political, social, and cultural elites, as well as members of the Armenian community.
Serzh Sargsyan said he was sure if the World had been unbiased and provided sincere assessment to the fact of the Armenian Genocide, nowadays it would not even be possible to discuss that the genocides are repeated.
The President lit a candle at Saint Bartholomew Church, chapels of which contain records on Christian martyrs, the Armenian Genocide victims.
The President made a note in the book of the honorable guests of the Church stating that lessons should be gained from the past.
