Armenia will reveal to the world its prehistorical culture of petroglyphs. Now there are all the reasons to have Armenia’s Syunik Region petroglyphs included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. The petroglyphs, from 2950-3200 meters above sea level were shown at the “Images For Eternity – Petroglyphs of The Armenian Highland”, at Sisian Arts School.
These images have been the focus of researches by Armenian and German archeologists. The expedition was conducted in territories between Nazeli Volcano and the Sepasar Mountain. In total, 2,500 sq/m territory was mapped and documented. 10.000 petroglyphs on 3.000 rocks were discovered.
They are dated back to the Neolithic Period. The exhibition was presented in Berlin, at German MFA’s entrance hall, in 2013 to popularize the art of the Armenian Petroglyphs. Soon it will be presented in Yerevan. There is some 2 years more work for the archeologists to complete and to prepare the retreaved materials for the publication.
