The sound of the bell is the most expected in Goshavank. Last time, and merely partly, it was repaired in 1960s. The 11 churches, chapels, library-belfry, vestibule, refectory of the remarkable medieval monastery complex constructed during 100 years needed serious repair long ago. Stones falling off the walls, cracks deepening day by day… The most ancient St Mary Church and valuable wall inscriptions were particularly damaged by rains. Construction workers showed up there after the RA President’s visit to Gosh village. According to the construction workers of the company highly experienced in church repair, the work foreseen for this phase will have been finished by the end of the year. The construction work was started on October. The villagers waited for the repair of the monastery most of all. The annual tourist flow here is impressive. Though the church’s repair is funded from the state budget, the villagers also hope that benefactors will stretch out a helping hand to enhance the scope of such an important work. This was for the lack of funds that the repair of the tomb of Mkhitar Gosh started three years ago had slowed down. The illustrious names of the author of the first Armenian law code Mkhitar Gosh, Kirakos Gandzaketsi, Momik are associated with this medieval spiritual, cultural, and educational center. Here they believe that a museum of the history of ancient Armenian law should be established in Goshavank as well.
